Core Values and Standards
- General
- Private, co-educational Christian day school
- non-discrimination based on race, color, sex or ethnic origin
- a safe and peaceful learning atmosphere that is conducive to learning.
- Academics
- primary teaching goal: to enable students and families to grow in their love for and devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ (Psalm 37.5) and equip them to take every thought captive to His obedience. (Mathew 22.36-40; 2 Corinthians 10.5)
- rigorous academics but academically non-elitist: students with average IQ/intellect; balanced with limited, reasonable amounts of work outside the classroom, respecting the need for balanced family/home life
- classical pedagogy, with emphasis on the trivium
- college preparatory (but this goal is secondary and subordinate to the primary goal)
- develop the whole student: mentally, physically, spiritually, socially (Luke 2.52)
- as soon as possible, accommodations for students with mild learning disabilities
- Spiritual
- a ministry to the parents and their children
- Bible is to be the foundation for every aspect of the school
- grace-based versus law-based (I Peter 5.2-3); clear distinction between “God’s rules” and “house rules.”
- emphasis on diligent study and application of God’s word (2 Timothy 2.15) by all
- worldview training (seeing the world as God’s creation and helping students to think and act Biblically as they serve and glorify Him in their calling)
- statement of faith consistent with historic Protestant creeds and confessions
- Leadership
- board members, administrators, and teachers who demonstrate a mature Christian faith and love for the Lord as evidenced in their character, devotional life, and church membership.
- school leaders who are committed to pray for the school (Colo 4.2)
- school leaders and parents who are committed to Biblical peacemaking
- rigorous qualification process for closed board membership (to ensure, as much as possible, that board members are committed to the mission, the vision, and all school policies.)
- generational strategic planning by board members
- Parents
- “in loco parentis” (assist, not replace, parents)
- normally at least one evangelical Christian parent/guardian but open to limited enrollment of seekers who will comply with Biblical standards of behavior and all school policies and willingly acknowledge that the statement of faith forms the basis of all teaching.
- advisory board comprised of parents whose children are enrolled in the school
- Financial Standards
- debt-free operation (operating costs should not exceed 100% of hard income)
- complete honesty and integrity in all aspects of management (including checks and balances to ensure financial integrity and accountability)
- no government funding
